found! (fallen)

{Thanksgiving table}

{before}

{after. festive! gaudy? love.}

I found these fallen pinecones on an empty lot in my neighborhood. Not too sure how I'll arrange them..maybe lots in a big bowl or if I feel ambitious string them as a garland...any ideas?

welcome back

{a little gold spray paint never hurt anyone}

the holiday decorating has begun! bought the tree this weekend and found two stockings that are awesome and vintagey for 70 cents a piece!

I hope you had a nice weekend!
*more pictures of my gold pinecone escapades later on today. the suspense is killing you, I know.

peek

{testing paint colors, old political banner}

{great oriental rug, new paint on walls!}

{heirloom chair and beautifully framed bull photograph}

It's been over a month since I returned from KY where I helped a redecorate a few rooms for a friend. Here's a peek of the beginning. It was fun and we did it on a budget. More later!

nice little nook

yummy little tumblr slice.

I'd add a plant or a picture or two.

I like you Maude, I like you Harold

Maude: A lot of people enjoy being dead. But they are not dead, really. They're just backing away from life. Reach out. Take a chance. Get hurt even. But play as well as you can. Go team, go! Give me an L. Give me an I. Give me a V. Give me an E. L-I-V-E. LIVE! Otherwise, you got nothing to talk about in the locker room.

this is certainly a movie that deserves an audience. LF introduced it to me in college. I recommend it highly. I just love Maude's free spirit and seeing Harold learn to live his life with love. It's not that sappy, I promise. There's blood and gore! oh and Cat Stevens does the entire score. Did I just rap?

holidaze

I feel like my blog posts have been...a little lagging lately. Not as sparkly and shiny as I want them to be. Holidays will do that to you. Sorry my loyal readers! {that's you and you}

on another note...I've managed to keep this little fig tree alive for nearly a month! fist pump+dancing

do you know any tricks for making these guys grow big and tall? Should I repot it yet? I suppose I should google it.

He saw it, he loved it, he ate it

“Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I answer all my children’s letters — sometimes very hastily — but this one I lingered over. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, “Dear Jim: I loved your card.” Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.” That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it."

the weekend!

another flea market this weekend in Long Beach. need to find a treasure or three. any fun plans?

travellin' man

eclectic. I imagine a man living here...drives a beat up (but cool) truck/SUV, has good taste and is adventurous...like bungee jumping and hunting tigers. I approve.

William Kentridge

I was happily reminded of a favorite artist I had in college this week. Meet William Kentridge. A South African artist who sketches in charcoal and makes great little animations. These aren't your typical cutsey cartoons. His are dark, smudgy and eerie.

a few sketches

Happy Friday!

I heart art: Lee Kwang-ho

Speaking of succulents and such...

Korean artist Lee Kwang-Ho does an amazing job at achieving hyper-real-life-ness...with only oil paint, canvas and an enviable technique.

all images above from

I love that the name of the show was called Touch. Oh, irony.

ps: I also love this non-cactus painting of his

magical

is this a dream?

plantings

My love for cacti and succulents has grown considerably since moving to California two-ish years ago. They look otherworldly and are so dang easy to keep alive! I bought some yesterday to feed my small addiction...

{the goods}

{not exactly what I was going for, but it'll get bigger....right?}

{look at that purple hat! so fancy}

{and these. let's just take a moment to admire their cuteness}

here's to hoping they grow. any insider tips?

good day sir!

an old map in the perfect colors and that big vase of flowers! normally I like more stuff in a room and maybe another rug, but I say this room is pretttttty bangin'

found!

this week's found! is of the fallen kind.

There are tons of eucalyptus trees where I live and this huge fallen branch was spotted on an afternoon run. Came back with snippers and took a carload home (much to the dismay of peering neighbors).

stuck some branches in a tall glass vase and called it a day. The little seed pods are so dainty and the color is muted and dreamy. Not sure what those tall things are, I found them in the garage.

yowza.

 l.o.v.e. mainly the wallpaper + that artichoke-y lamp.  (the floor kind of throws me though and those hand towels}
!!!
oh and speaking of that lamp, reminds me of a Kathryn Bentley ring I've had my eye on:
it's just 18K gold and circled in diamonds, no big.

Craigslist: Kentucky Couches

{think shapes. ignore the psychedelic fabric. it's a cool chair and a cool sofa, some cool Kentuckian needs to own it. both for $570}

{interesting, tufted, could fit a fairly long person for a proper nap, reupholster it, or if you're into that vintage-y feel, dont. $180 ps: I'm likin' it against that purple wall. call me crazy!}

{hear me out. ditch the pillows, add something more graphic-y, modern-y perhaps. I'm crushin' on velvet right now...and there's piping! pip pip horray. you could have both for $600}

{white leather is totally eighties and not my style, BUT it's a Le Corbusier knockoff (?) for $250}

{a simple, tailored, neutral sofa - $300}

{carved little feet! but what is going on with the seat cushions? Leather? but, wait..that could be fixed! $750. (expensive, I think) kind of a love/hate kinda thing with this one.

{nice shape sofa with never before seen by me detail. I don't hate the color either. some other danish-y, modern-y stuff happening}

why Kentucky craigslist, when I live in California you ask? well, I just have high hopes that my friends back home in need of furniture will add these pieces to their home (and I like to torture myself).

How was your weekend?

the weekend!

hoping to get to the Rosebowl Flea, go to a rooftop party and clean the house (see how that was the last one listed?)

Have an awesome weekend!

*why yes, it is a picture of a succulent and a hose. don't look at me like that.

windows

small pictures. big ol' windows.
